HOUSE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SERVICE MATTERS COMMENDS PSIN

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters Hon. Sani Bala, has commended the Administrator/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo for developmental strides he achieved since his assumption of office.

The Chairman made this commendation while on oversight duty to the Public Service Institute of Nigeria. He acknowledged and commended the Administrator for the innovations and restructuring he has carried out in the Institute. He added that the interaction was meant to track the progress so far made most especially in the area of infrastructural development.

Dr. Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo in his response expressed appreciation for the level of support the Institute enjoyed from the Committee members.  He however decried inadequate funding to expand on existing structures with the view of generating more revenue to the government.

The Administrator informed the Honourable members that with their supports the Institute is gradually transforming into a “World class centre of Excellence in the conduct of training on Public Sector Governance, Management and Leadership Development” through collaborative efforts with Development partners.  Speaking further, he said that the Institute is working with various strategic partners such as World Bank, African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), Korean International Cooperation Agency( KOICA), Galaxy, Sawtel, Agencies,  paramilitary services, to mention but few, to provide capacity building/training.

Dr. Obatoyinbo assured that the Institute has not relented in the pursuit of its mission of “continuously engaging in modernising Manpower Practice and Leadership competencies of the top and middle level manpower and in the regular strengthening of the organisational capacities of Public Service Institute through provision of transformational Training, Research and Consultancy”.

The Administrator further told the Honourable Members that the Institute is working tirelessly to achieve its mandate by providing “competency-based and demand driven training” that will build capacity of Public Servants in the conduct of government business with transparency and accountability in line with the Strategic Implementation Plan and the Productive, Incorruptible and Citizen-Centred (EPIC) culture of the Head of Service.

Dr. Obatoyinbo also informed the Honourable Members that integrity and transparency has won the Institute the relationships and goodwill from various State Governments to conduct recruitment exercises, build capacity through various specialise training programmes, conducting promotion examinations and promotions for the Civil Servants.

He noted that some projects in the Institute are being slowed down as a result of poor releases of funds and solicited more support in getting additional funding for the Institute.
