HEAD of CIVIL SERVICE OF THE FEDERATION LAUNCH THE REDESIGNED TRAINING MODULES ON SMAT-P, LEAD-P AND INDUCTION IN ABUJA

To mark the commencement of the training activities under the Federal Civil Service Strategic and Implementation Plan FCSSIPP (2017-2020), The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita has launched the training modules on the structured Mandatory Assessment- Based Programme (SMAT-P), Leadership Enhancement Advancement Programme (LEAD-) and Induction training Programme.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Oyo-Ita stressed on compulsory training and re-training of civil servants across the government workforce, to entrench efficient and effective public service delivery. She observed that the absence of structured and targeted training programmes for civil servants has posed challenges to the service.

In her words “despite the series of training programmes going-on across the service, civil servants still lack the requisite knowledge and skills required for their jobs.
She noted that “In most cases, training modules are filled with contents that are mere routine and academic as they were not based on the real work place requirements”.

According to her, the newly launched programme will among other things provide “useful contents that will address knowledge and skill gaps in the Service; Contents that are capable of building a job-ready workforce in the Service; Adult friendly, capable of making learning experience a pleasure rather than a stress; Contents that can be blended/digitized, cost effective in delivery, wider in scope of coverage and fit for purpose; A standardized training content across the core Service; and Contents that engender hands-on and practical participation of trainee during training programmes. She stressed that contents should be packaged in such a way that trainees will be able to recollect what they were taught and make a difference in their workplace”.

The Administrator Chief Executive Officer, Public Service Institute of Nigeria, Dr Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo in his goodwill message lauded the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, for keeping to the implementation schedules of the programmes under the 2017-2020 Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan on capacity building and personnel development of Public Servant.

He however assured the Head of Civil Service, of PSIN’s commitment to deliver on the laudable project, noting that the noble contribution to the human Capacity Development will go a long way towards the realization of her vision to transform the Service, to make every Civil Servant to be Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible and Citizen-Centered (EPIC).
